Meet Ducky, Our Practice Cat

Ducky, the Practice cat

Ash Barty, forever young.

Percival Von Duck (AKA Ducky, Percy, Ducklyn, etc)

Ducky was brought into the clinic in May 2023 as a stray kitten found lost at Lake Annand. After about 6 weeks of trying to find out if anyone was missing their furbaby and his trial as a clinic cat, he had firmly entrenched himself in the Rangeside Family.

Detouring from the habits of previous clinic cats, he is not driven by food and is kept 100% inside. If you happen to be at the clinic around 5:30pm, you are likely to witness him in throes of mad zoomies.

In the great words of Kristen Cast, ‘Cats choose us; we don’t choose them’. Ducky has certainly chosen a pampered life filled with people who will continuously give him attention and care

Vale Ash (Ash Barty)

After presenting to the clinic as a stray young cat in July of 2021, Ash was so named because she arrived the day that Ash Barty won Wimbledon. She invited herself to trial life with the Rangeside Family and after the 28 probation days that followed, she ingratiated herself into the team. She proved herself to be a valued and much-loved member of the practice to not only staff but clients and patients alike.

Taking after Mr Darcy, see below, she has learnt vital cat clinic skills like:

  • tricking the humans into second breakfast,

  • getting the last scraps after lunch,

  • finding the best patch of sunlight to take a nap and

  • taking rides in the washing basket up and down the stairs from the clothes line.

Unfortunately, her judgement with vehicles was never good and she passed away June 2022.

“Cats knead their way right into the center of your soul, so they are always near and dear to you.”

Loved and remembered, Mr Darcy.

Vale Mr Darcy

Mr Darcy arrived at Rangeside Veterinarians in November 2008 as a rescue kitten from the pound. His handsome looks drew us in right from the very beginning and earned him his worldly name.

His confident personality was perfectly suited to life as a clinic cat but his cheeky ways saw him threatened many times with being returned to the pound. We were often asked about his breeding – we always replied that he was: “Siamese crossed with delinquent”.

Darcy was a beloved member of the Rangeside Vets family who was adored by all, right up to his unexpected passing in June 2021. Staff, clients and patients alike all miss him and remember him fondly. From the way he greeted everyone who walked through the door, to his “hangry” nibbles in the late afternoons on anyone who patted him once too often he truly made his mark in the world.

We thank you Darcy for all time you spent bringing a little spark of joy to each day. We will always have our memories of you to treasure.

“What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply, becomes a part of us.” – Helen Keller
